Professor/ Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer in Archaeology

The School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies is seeking to appoint a Professor/Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer with a specialization in Middle Stone Age/Middle Palaeolithic archaeology. At senior lecturer level, the successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree and will have an excellent record of independent research, publications in top international journals and presentations at international conferences, plus a record of undergraduate teaching. At the Professor/Associate Professor level, in addition to the above traits, the successful candidate will have an excellent record of fund raising, postgraduate student supervision and field training, as well as demonstrated academic and field administrative skills. Their undergraduate teaching record, field experience and academic citizenship will be at a level commensurate with the senior rank. The primary appointment criteria in all cases will be proven research excellence in Middle Stone Age/Middle Palaeolithic archaeology.

Preference will be given to candidates with an NRF rating, an established field research programme and the ability to develop a southern African research focus. The candidate will be expected to teach courses on Stone Age archaeology at undergraduate and Honours levels.

Duties: Responsibilities will include undergraduate as well as postgraduate teaching and supervision, an active programme of research and publication, and service to the Archaeology Division, School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies and the University. All candidates will be given full consideration.

Remuneration: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank.
