Certificate in Cognitive Archaeology

One of a Kind Certificate in Cognitive Archaeology Offered at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs

The Center for Cognitive Archaeology at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs has an opportunity for students to enroll in unique courses and earn a certificate in Cognitive Archaeology. Being an interdisciplinary field, a certificate in Cognitive Archeology could underpin a specialization in the topic for students in many disciplines. All classes and the certificate can be completed at the undergraduate or graduate level.

The Center for Cognitive Archaeology offers all courses online, allowing for the recruitment of top specialists from around the world. They teach the evolutionary development of cognition in humans and other primates through the lenses of psychology, anthropology, archaeology, and philosophy. Four courses are required to earn a certificate. Courses offered include:

  • Rock Art and Modern Cognition with Prof. Iain Davidson, University of New England, New South Wales, Australia
  • Consciousness with Prof. Robert Welshon, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
  • Wild Cognition with Klint Janulis, DPhil candidate in Anthropology, University of Oxford
  • Symbolic Evolution with Prof. April Nowell, University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
  • Embodied Cognition and Material Cultural with Prof. Lambros Malafouris, University of Oxford
  • Language Typology and Universals in Relation to Language Origins, Cognition, and Social Discourse with Prof. Linda Watts, University of Colorado, USA
