Postdoctoral Position in Paleolithic Archaeology DFG Center for Advanced Studies: “Words, Bones, Genes, Tools”

One postdoctoral position is available at the DFG Center for Advanced Studies: “Words, Bones, Genes, Tools”, University of Tübingen, Germany.

The start date is negotiable, but cannot be later than July 15th 2018. The position will run for nine months. Salary will be according to the German public service scale TV-L E13, 100%.

The successful postholder will study and publish lithic assemblages from two Late Pleistocene/ Holocene sites in Ethiopia, currently housed at the National Museum in Addis Ababa. He/she will, therefore, work closely with the project PI, Dr. Yonatan Sahle. Specifically, the postholder will collect, organize, analyze, and interpret lithic technological data. Results will be published collaboratively; for one of the sites, the successful postholder will be the lead author.

Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. in archaeology, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of lithic analysis, and experience working with Late Pleistocene lithic assemblages from eastern/northeastern Africa or the Levant. Familiarity with the archaeology of modern human origins, and excellent writing skills in English are also required.

The successful postholder will be required to work in the National Museum of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, for the few months during examination of the lithic assemblages.
